Stocking stuffers that actually fit

by jenny

An open gift box of Ristau Family Farm soaps, bath bombs, body oil and lip balm, packed to ship

every year i watch people hunt for stocking stuffers that aren't just more stuff. you know the kind, the little things that get tossed in a drawer by new year's. so here is my take, from the other side of the market table. a good stocking stuffer is small, it is handmade, and it actually gets used.

The ones that fit

my go-to picks are the pucker up buttercup lip balm, the little essential oil rollers at $10 each, and then a bath bomb or the lavender shower steamers, one or the other. bath people get a bath bomb, shower people get the steamers. they are small enough to tuck right into a stocking, and they are the kind of thing people use up and then come back for.

honestly, almost everything we make can be a stocking stuffer or part of a little combo. the one exception is the chicken tender. that crochet chicken is not a stuffer. it is the main gift the stocking sits next to.

What people actually walk away with

at markets, i can always tell who is stocking shopping. they head straight for the small stuff, the same go-to picks. chapstick, the little essential oil rollers, and a bath bomb or the steamers, over and over. the rollers are newer for me, small bottles of vanilla orange lavender, $10 each, that you roll on when you want a soft scent without a whole perfume.

the lip balm is the easy add-on. people grab one for a stocking and one for their own pocket.

The teacher and coworker orders

we get a lot of teacher and coworker orders this time of year, and they almost all look the same. a couple of chapsticks, a roller or two, and a bar of soap. it lands every time, because everybody uses soap and lip balm, and it still feels personal because somebody here made it by hand.

The hardest stocking at our house

the hardest person to stuff a stocking for is my own husband. shaniko gets underwear, soap, and candy, every single year. he still acts surprised. thirty some years in, i am not fixing what works.

Or let us ship it for you

here is a new one this year. most of our christmas orders get shipped anyway, so we figured, if you are shipping a gift to somebody, why not let us do it for you. pick what you want, tell us who it is for, and we will make the box up to order, any way you want it. we tuck in a personalized note from you and ship it straight to them. that is your personal touch, without the post office line.

local folks, you can still order for pickup here in emmett through december 18. if we are shipping a box for you, message us early so it lands in time.

small gifts, made by hand, from our little farm to your family's stockings.
